Age of Empires Mobile is a free strategy game from developer Level Infinite. Not to be confused with Age of Empires: Castle Siege, it is the latest attempt from Microsoft to break into the ever-competitive mobile gaming industry. It will directly take inspiration from the popular Age of Empires series on PCs.

Compared to its PC counterparts like Age of Empires IV, the upcoming Age of Empires Mobile game will expectedly be a scaled-down version of the originals’ ultra-expansive experience. However, the city-building and strategic combat mechanics players know and love will remain core staples.

Pocket empires

Real-time strategy (RTS) games have been popular since the Command and Conquer series blew up in popularity in the 90s. They let players engage in large-scale skirmishes with real-time gameplay for an engaging experience that makes them think and strategize before taking action. The Age of Empires series is another influential name for its historical themes that dive into various eras in the history of man.

The series have always been PC-centric experiences since they first made their debut. While the franchise has dipped its toes into the mobile market with releases like Age of Empires: World Domination and Age of Empires: Castle Siege, they were short-lived and ho-hum attempts. Now, this title boasts graphics and mechanics comparable to the PC releases, promising impressive visuals and intense gameplay.

There are various civilizations to choose from as your starting point — the Romans, Franks, Byzantines, Chinese, and more to come. More than 40 historical heroes can be deployed and you can combine their skills to buff your armies. Employ the deadliest war tactics ever known to man and emerge victorious from every campaign. Unfortunately, the game is yet to be released and some gameplay aspects may change prior to its official launch.

A welcome surprise

Age of Empires Mobile game is now a thing, and it’s a nice surprise if you’re a fan of the desktop series. This version retains the classic RTS game mechanics from the originals and features stunning graphics and high-stakes tactical gameplay. However, Information is limited right now as it’s still under active development, and lots of things may still change before it gets released officially.
